Think outside of the box!
Choosing a brand name for a new business or new product is an important decision. Like naming a new baby, you are stuck with it for life. Of course, business and people change their names, but the success of rebranding is fraught with risk and cost. With this in mind, how does one choose an impactful brand name?
Your company name does not have to specifically name what you do. It just needs to be memorable, easy to spell, search for, say, and write. It needs to be broad enough to evolve with your business, well into the future.
Don’t over analyze it!
Your choice matters, but analysis paralysis can lead to mediocre, boring, or group-think decisions. Come up with something easily identifiable and memorable that you, your team, and your clients will like seeing on everything from your website to coffee mugs. A good logo for your new brand name helps give it life, context, and appeal.
Also, does it sound good and sonically pleasing? When asked the name of your business or new product, will you enjoy saying it?
Prioritize simplicity and memorability!
Short, unique, and unburdened are the key attributes of a new brand name that will be distinctive, impactful, and memorable. By unburdened I mean a blank slate upon which to build your brand, unburdened by alternative meanings, uses, and connotations.
Check domain name availability!
Your brand name will become your website URL, social handles, email addresses and more. Beyond checking if a short .com domain is available, also run shortlisted names through platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn and Gmail.
Choose a dotcom domain name. According to Stanford University research, users have a demonstrated preference for .com domains in search results and that .com domains have 37% higher user trust compared to other extensions.

Make sure it is adaptable!
When choosing a brand name for a new business or new product too many business try to choose a band name that specifies exactly what they do or offer. There are two problems with this. First, it usually means stringing words together like “WeMakeBeltsNYC.”
So you end up with an uninspiring brand name burdened with an overly long domain name. In the past, relevant key words in your domain name assisted in search engine optimization (SEO). This is no longer the case.
Second, this descriptive name is not able to stretch to accommodate pivots in business strategy, new products or services, and new markets. Pizza Hut and RadioShack have trouble explaining that they sell more than pizza and radios, respectively.
Kodak on the other hand, works for everything from film to scanners to advanced materials and chemicals. And KODAK it is a five letter domain name!
